07 Aug Nuts Are Easy. We Chose the Better Way
When we first set out to create Better Bar, one of the most important choices we made was to be completely nut free. On the surface, that might seem like a small detail. After all, most snack bars on the market include nuts in some form. But for us, this decision represented a core part of our philosophy. We wanted to challenge the status quo and create something better, something that did not rely on shortcuts or fillers.
We noticed how common nuts were in most snack bars, and there is a clear reason for it. Nuts and nut oils are inexpensive, easy to work with, and serve several convenient purposes in manufacturing. They add bulk, help bind ingredients together, and mask flavors that might otherwise stand out. For companies that want to produce bars quickly and cost effectively, they are an obvious solution.
But efficiency was never our only goal. We wanted to create a snack that felt inclusive, intentional, and crafted with care. That is why we chose to be nut free from the very beginning.
Why So Many Snack Bars Use Nuts
Nuts are popular in snack bars because they are convenient. They provide structure, carry oils that keep bars soft, and can easily fill out a recipe. But in many bars, they are used more as filler than as a thoughtful ingredient.
While nuts can be nutritious on their own, relying on them too heavily often leads to bars with heavy, repetitive flavors and less balance overall. We knew we could take a different approach, one that delivered satisfying energy and texture without defaulting to the same formula everyone else was using.
Why We Chose to Be Nut Free
Being nut free allows us to focus on what matters most. There are three main reasons why we believe this choice makes Better Bar truly better.
First, it makes our bars more inclusive. Nut allergies are one of the most common food allergies today, especially among children. For many families, that means snacks with nuts are not an option. By leaving nuts out entirely, we create a snack that fits more lives and takes away the worry. Parents can pack our bars in lunchboxes, offices can stock them in break rooms, and friends can share them freely.
This is personal for us. We know how challenging it can be for people with allergies to find snacks that feel safe and satisfying, and making that easier is something we care deeply about.
Second, it removes unnecessary fillers. Without nuts and nut oils, we focus on seeds, fruits, and whole grains. These ingredients deliver protein, fiber, and natural energy, and every one of them is chosen intentionally. We build bars for balance and nourishment, not because they are the fastest or cheapest way to fill space.
Third, it allows the natural flavors to shine. Without nut butters weighing everything down, you actually taste the ingredients. The brightness of fruit, the crunch of seeds, and the richness of whole grains come through clearly in every bite. The result is a snack that feels fresh and vibrant rather than one note or heavy.
Rethinking What Healthy Means
Going nut free is about more than avoiding allergens. It is about rethinking how we define healthy food. Too often, “healthy” gets boiled down to a single trendy ingredient. Real health comes from balance, variety, and care in how food is made.
By choosing to go nut free, we gave ourselves the chance to be more thoughtful. We focus on simple, recognizable ingredients and recipes that are as clean as they are delicious. It may take more effort, but we believe that is what makes it worthwhile.
The Better Way
Nuts are easy, but doing what is easy has never been our goal. Our nut free approach is about creating something thoughtful, trustworthy, and inclusive. It is about snacks that deliver real satisfaction and fit into more lives without compromise.
At Better Bar, being nut free is not about what is missing. It is about what is possible when you choose ingredients carefully and take the time to do things differently. That is why we chose the better way.
